    Recent SCRS Accomplishments:

    1. Produced a report, including supporting documentation by paint manufacturer, on the need for flex additive in the refinishing of plastic substrates. Members were allegedly being told that it was not necessary and insurers were not paying for it.

    2. Produced a report, including supporting documentation by state, on paint capping. The supporting documentation includes a response from most state’s department of insurance as well as several major insurers.

    3. Produced a report on aftermarket parts and the impact they are having on collision repairers. The research we conducted provided statistical data to support collision repairer’s issues. These issues were not specific to just the fit and finish, it concentrated on the distribution as well. The goal is to use this information to work with the parts manufacturers, distributors and insurers to improve the process/parts. This is a current project and additional results will be released shortly.

    4. Produced an article that addresses “blend within a panel”. It has been reported that repairers were being asked to reduce the refinish time on panels where they were not applying basecoat to the end of repaired panel. The article cited that members have access to the responses from the paint manufacturers and information providers that substantiates our findings.

    5. Two of our Board members co-chair the CIC Estimating Committee and the SCRS administrative staff provides the administrative support. This team of people has helped in improving the accuracy of the estimating databases. There have been changes in the times in the databases that have increased the hours you receive on a given labor operation. I would strongly encourage you to view that information on the CIC website at www.ciclink.com.

    6. Assisted in the reform of the California Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR).
This is the regulatory agency charging repairers with fraud for things such as dirt nibs or buff marks in the paint.

    7. Created a Regulatory Agency Best Practices Guidelines.

    8. Participated in a trip to Taiwan to address eight aftermarket parts manufacturers. We illustrated the need to improve the quality of parts and illustrated the many areas of concern.

    9. Instrumental in causing Mitchell to change their database to only offer panel bonding times on those vehicles and panels where it is specifically an OEM recommendation repair procedure.

    10. Instrumental in working with the information providers in proving their request for review process.

    11.  Instrumental in working with the information providers to begin adding the type of metal next to the part on the estimate.

    12. Gathered position statements from all of the major car manufacturers regarding reconditioned wheels.
